HCC Theatre Presents "Living Together"

HCC Theatre's fall production of "Living Together" runs December 3 through 6 and 10 through 13. “Living Together” is a British comedy written by award winning British playwright Alan Ayckbourn. It is one of the plays in a trilogy entitled THE NORMAN CONQUESTS. Gossip, arguments, drunkenness and family secrets; there is nothing like a weekend with the family! HCC Study Abroad

This year’s Study Abroad trip explores Vienna, Budapest, Prague and Salzburg. Dates are May 9 through 23, 2010. The tour includes round-trip air transportation, a multi-lingual “Go Ahead” tour director, licensed local city guides, 3- and 4-star accommodations, daily breakfast, three-course dinners, private deluxe motor coach, guided sight-seeing and entrance fees to select sights, and a “Go Ahead” travel gift. The study abroad experience is for participants who are 18 years of age or older. Enroll by December 31, 2009. ALL fees due by February 15, 2010. The Kachina and Vessel Show

The Kachina and Vessel Show

The HCC art students’ work will be featured in the Kachina and Vessel Show, which runs through November 25 in the HCC Library. The exhibit brings together two historical objects: the Kachina and the Vessel. Similarities and differences bind and define these objects. Each has specific cultural influences. The Kachina originates from the Hopi and Pueblo Indian culture, “can represent anything from a revered ancestor, to an element, a location, a quality, a natural phenomenon, or a concept.” In its structure the vessel references the figure. The anatomy of a vessel contains feet, belly, shoulders, necks and lips. Historically, vessels have served in ceremonies and rituals in cultures all over the world. Today, the vessel is an art object that draws upon functional and sculptural ideas. In their assignment students have been asked to develop their awareness of structure, form and how complex forms are developed by combining parts. Students developed their interpretation of Kachinas, using the object itself as a starting point and allowing that influence to enter their work literally, and in others more abstractly. As they thought about vessels, students were asked to consider form, utility and design. By constructing their own Kachinas, students carried its anatomy into the vessels, informing the decision making process.

Nursing Program Pass Rate at 97.3%

Congratulations to the HCC Nursing Program on their third quarter pass rate of 97.3%. Thus far, 74 of our 76 2009 graduates have taken the NCLEX-RN, with 72 passing it on their first attempt. Two more 2009 graduates have yet to take the test. HCC’s pass rate is the highest when compared to the other 19 Associate Degree programs across the state and when compared to the four-year programs HCC is the second highest, with Metropolitan State (who had only six testers compared to our 74 testers) at a 100% pass rate.
